Manchester United had a direct talk with Barcelona earlier today, the 27th of June, for the Frenkie de Jong deal. According to the transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona asked for a total of around €85m transfer fee for the 25-year-old midfielder. The Red Devils are working to get the deal done. They are in talks with the Catalan club regarding the add-ons to reach the total package of €85m.
It seems the Premier League outfits have locked their target on Frenkie de Jong this time. The talks are in the final stage. It is almost certain De Jong will join Manchester United. We can expect to hear the announcement in the coming days.
Before today, Barcelona rejected a €60m plus add-ons verbal offer from Man United.
After finishing barely 6th in the table in the Premier League, the Red Devils are in a state of rebuilding. It has been no secret that De Jong is the top priority for Erik ten Hag to rebuild the midfield. The former Ajax manager desperately wants his former player in the Manchester United dugout.
Harry Maguire to Barcelona?
According to Andy Mitten from the National News, Barcelona wanted to sign Harry Maguire as a part of the deal for Frenkie de Jong. The Man United board, however, rejected the offer without any second thought.
Harry Maguire was criticized vehemently by the home fans last season. Erik ten Hag wants to make progress with the center-back who hardly makes any mistake wearing the England shirt.
